Career Buzz talks to a new generation of entrepreneurial, ecological farmers!

Leslie Moskovitz went directly into an organic farming internship at Everdale after graduating with a degree in Environmental Studies and Anthropology, and has been farming ever since. Raised in Toronto, Leslie had never thought about a career in farming. She now loves her job, managing a vegetable business and Community Supported Agriculture program on her own farm, Cedar Down along with her life partner.

Tarrah Young has been farming for a decade after graduating with a degree in Environmental Biology. She and her husband run the Green Being Farm where they raise and direct market pork, poultry, lamb, beef and eggs, with a focus on raising animals in a way that does not compromise their dignity or that of the environment. They also run a Community Supported Agriculture program, supplying members with storage crops and hardy greens along with a healthy dose of food and farm education.

Supporting a new generation of entrepreneurial, ecological farmers is FarmStart, and we’ll be joined by executive director, Christie Young, and program manager, Sri Sethuratnum. They’ll share insights about what it takes to start a farm, and how to make this career and life choice less risky and more accessible, whether you’re a recent grad or a New Canadian. Tune in and learn more about this surprisingly satisfying career possibility, whether you’re an intellectual, environmental ist or interested gardener!

On Sept. 12, Career Buzz featured positive psychology researchers and leaders including Marie-Helene Budworth. She talked about how people can be the best they can be at work, and that, “research tells us that performance reviews don’t improve performance in a predictable and consistent way.” Have a listen to Marie talking about a narrative alternative to performance reviews — the feedforward model — in which employees tell stories of success. Listen to the whole show, Marie’s interview starts at 17:05.
